Shaking off the winter sluggishness, we now step into the hopeful spring season. Will the updates from the mobile Internet market in Poland be as cheerful as the weather outside? Join us as we dive into our most recent ranking of mobile operators in Poland.

April ushered in more changes in Poland’s mobile Internet landscape. This month, we logged 486,634 measurements, indicating a growing enthusiasm among users for 5G technology.

In April 2023, the share of 5G technology in the measurements from our app’s users stood at 13.07%, up from March, when it was 11.48%. 4G LTE technology maintained its reign, representing 80.84% of all results. WCDMA technology was the choice for 6.09% of testers.

The operators preferred by users of the RFBENCHMARK mobile application for testing were Orange (32.93%) and Play (31.69%). A smaller number of people opted for Plus (18.48%) and T-Mobile (16.9%) networks for their measurements.

Mobile Internet in Poland – What was the situation like in March 2023?

In the 5G category, Plus retained its supremacy in data download speed, while Orange held onto the top spot for data upload speed and ping value. In the 4G LTE category, Orange clocked the highest average data download speed, with Play leading in data upload speed and ping value.

5G performance

Average data download speed: Plus (148.2 Mbps)

Plus continues to outperform its rivals in 5G data download speed, clocking in at 148.2 Mbps. This result further cements Plus’s exceptional standing in this category. T-Mobile, achieving 57.3 Mbps, secures second place, despite a sizeable gap from the leader. Play follows closely with 56.6 Mbps for a third-place finish, while Orange trails the pack, reaching only 53.4 Mbps and failing to break the 60 Mbps mark.

Average data upload speed: Play (39.3 Mbps)

Play emerged as the standout performer in the 5G data upload speed category, securing the top spot with 39.3 Mbps. Despite its dominance in data download speed, Plus had to contend with third place here, registering 26.2 Mbps. T-Mobile, with a solid 36.9 Mbps, seized second place, while Orange, at 34.5 Mbps, rounds out the field.

Lowest ping value: Play (27.2 ms)

Play’s excellent performance didn’t stop at data upload speed, as it also posted the best 5G ping result at 27.2 ms. Despite closely contested results, none of the other operators managed to surpass Play. T-Mobile follows in second place with 28.6 ms, Orange in third with 30.0 ms, and Plus, despite its high data download speed, settles for last with a ping of 35.5 ms.

4G LTE performance

Average data download speed: T-Mobile (42.7 Mbps)

T-Mobile not only maintained, but fortified its leading position in 4G data download speed, delivering a robust 42.7 Mbps. This performance demonstrates T-Mobile’s commitment to its 4G users, despite the growing prevalence of 5G.

Play, with a respectable 39.1 Mbps, lands in second place. Orange, narrowly behind Play at 39.0 Mbps, claims third, while Plus, at 33.2 Mbps, finds itself in fourth once again.

Average data upload speed: Play (23.3 Mbps)

Even with its strong 5G network presence, Play continues to excel in the 4G realm, leading the data upload speed category with 23.3 Mbps. Evidently, Play prioritizes high-quality service across both data upload and download.

T-Mobile, while unable to overtake Play, showcases a commendable 20.1 Mbps, securing second place. Orange closely trails with 19.9 Mbps, underscoring a tight competition for second place.

Despite its 5G data download speed dominance, Plus concludes the 4G data upload speed category in last place with 17.8 Mbps.

Lowest ping value: Play (30.5 ms)

Not resting on its laurels, Play also demonstrated its capabilities in 4G network ping, achieving a result of 30.5 ms. Quick user command responses, crucial for seamless communication, are clearly a priority for Play.

Orange follows with a solid 31.0 ms, and while it couldn’t surpass Play, it affirms the operator’s commitment to service quality.

T-Mobile, with a ping of 33.0 ms, secures third place. Despite not topping the charts, T-Mobile still offers a competitive 4G network ping, ensuring satisfactory user experiences. Plus, with a result of 38.9 ms, rounds out the list.

How did we collect data for the ranking?

The measurements are collected from the users of our mobile app. It allows us to measure basic mobile network parameters – including signal level and quality depending on the technology used by the mobile device, information about the mobile network operator, or the country where the smartphone is located. In addition, on-demand measurements of data download and upload speeds, as well as a latency test, are performed.

When the app notices a low-quality voice call, lack of mobile Internet service, or other services, it has the ability to report the user’s current position where the problem occurred.
